Marathon Champ Deena Kastor Feels Sorry For "Misguided" Runners Who Doped In Order To Win
(CBS) -- Deena Kastor, Chicago Marathon 2005 Champion, says she feels sorry for the runners who have used performance-enhancing drugs.
"To be successful in life you need to know that it takes one step at a time and to see progress and it is so sad that they don't believe that their bodies are capable of doing great things without substances to aid them," Kastor told Josh Liss.
Kastor was in town August 5 – 6 to meet with Chicago Marathon participants. Shortly after being interviews by Liss, Liliya Shobukhova was stripped of her three Chicago Marathon titles from 2009-2011.
Kastor is going after a big goal in October breaking the American Master's Marathon record. At 42 years old, Deena would be running a 5:38 mile for the entire marathon.
What makes this an even more interesting goal, is that the standing record was set at the Chicago Marathon in 2005 – the day that Deena won.
