Many Taxpayers Who Filed By Mail Still Waiting For Refunds From State
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (CBS) -- The Illinois Department of Revenue says many Illinoisans who filed their tax returns the old-fashioned way are still waiting for refunds.
As WBBM Newsradio's Dave Berner reports, there is no word on exactly how many 2011 tax returns filed on paper, rather than electronically, have been delayed. But the State of Illinois says it is definitely moving more slowly than last year.
And there is a reason. Reports indicate that the Revenue Department has 25 to 30 fewer workers processing paper refunds because of the state's budget woes.
The department had hoped to get about 80 percent of returns filed electronically, but instead got only about 70 – also contributing to the delay.
Some who filed online and used direct deposit got their refunds in one week.
