Many Chicagoans Plan To Stay Home Wednesday

CHICAGO (WBBM) -- Many Chicagoans going to work Tuesday morning are wondering whether they will be battling the elements on Wednesday, or pulling the covers back over their heads and staying home.

As WBBM's Newsradio 780's Bernie Tafoya reports, one sheet metal worker in Orland Park says he plans to get up three hours early on Wednesday, plow his driveway, and then make his way into work.

Jerry McNicholas, on the other hand, is leaning against going to work.

"They're talking about shutting our job down, so, you know, I work at the BP-Amoco Whiting refinery, so I don't know if we're going to be working or not, but we'll know later on today," McNicholas said.

But even if the refinery is open for business, McNicholas said: "I don't think a lot of guys are going to go. It sounds like it's going to be pretty bad, doesn't it? So I think the likelihood of us working is very slim."

One school bus attendant, Gladys Green, says she doubts she will have to go in to work on Wednesday.

"I'll look at it. I'll be at home, hopefully," she said.

If the snow is as severe as forecast, of the possibility of going to work, Green says: "No, I don't think so. I plan to go in, but it's according to how the situation, you know, see, I work with the schools, and the school will probably be closed."

WBBM 780 also asked Facebook users whether they planned to go to work on Wednesday.

Charles Mitchum says anything over a foot will keep him home. Al Zaifman says he probably will not be going to work.

Frank Klank says his company has a location two miles from his home, and while he might not make it to his office, he will make it to an office.
