Man's Guns Confiscated After Willis Tower Threat
CHICAGO (CBS) -- After he reportedly threatened the Willis Tower, Chicago Police found a stash of guns in a man's Uptown neighborhood apartment.
Police came to the 60-year-old man's apartment in the 4200 block of North Sheridan Road around 2:30 p.m. Monday.
Once inside, officers found 20 guns, including shotguns, as well as two grenades and several pounds of gunpowder, police said.
Police determined there was "no overt threat" to Willis Tower or to the general public, police said.
Officers evacuated the first three floors of the building while police Bomb & Arson Section officers removed the weapons.
A witness described the scene on the blog Uptown Update.
"I saw (police) had a shopping cart FULL of rifles/shotguns out front that I presume they seized inside," the witness wrote.
The man was taken to a local mental facility for a psychological evaluation and has not been charged as of Monday night, police said.
Chicago Police and members of the Chicago FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force are investigating, but were not immediately available for comment late Monday.
