Man's Crime Spree Ends On An Empty Tank
ST. CHARLES, IL (STMW) -- A 31-year-old west suburban man was arrested Saturday after he allegedly stole a running BMW from in front of a St. Charles 7-11, used the car to steal of vacuum cleaner from a Batavia Kohl's store, and then ran out of gas on the side of the road.
Around 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Brian D. Nord, 31, of the 300 block of 2nd Avenue in St. Charles, allegedly stole a gray 1998 BMW from in front of of the convenience store at 1705 W. Main St., where the car had been left running, a release from St. Charles police said.
The victim saw the car being driven out of the parking lot and called police, the release said, who put out an alert about the stolen vehicle. Less than an hour later, a Kane County Sheriff's police officer spotted the vehicle near Route 47 and the I-90 Tollway but was unable to stop the vehicle, the release said.
Around 5 p.m., the vehicle was involved in a retail theft of a vacuum cleaner at the Kohl's store in Batavia, the release said.
Finally, around 9 p.m., the Yorkville Police Dept. responded to a dispatch of a disabled BMW on Route 47, south of Galena Road. Nord, who had apparently run out of gas, was identified as the driver and the stolen car was recovered, the release said.
Nord was taken into custody by the Yorkville Police Dept. and taken to the Kendall County Correctional Facility. He was charged with vehicle theft conspiracy and driving with a revoked license, the release said.
Other items were recovered from the back seat of the stolen BMW that may be connected with other retail thefts.
There is a possibility of additional charges after further investigation is completed.
Bond has been set at $50,000 with the Kendall County cases.
The St. Charles Police Dept. obtained a warrant Wednesday and charged Nord with unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle in Kane County for the original theft. A hold was placed on Nord with the Kendall County Correctional Facility. Bond on the St. Charles warrant was set at $250,000.
