Manhunt Underway After Little Village Bank Robbery
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A manhunt was underway Friday afternoon for a robber who held up a bank in the Little Village neighborhood, but made off with a mere $350.
Around 11:10 a.m. Friday, at the Second Federal Savings branch at 3960 W. 26th St., the suspect approached a teller and claimed to have a gun but did not show it, according to Ogden District police Lt. Ken Sahnas.
The man did not really have a gun. He was holding his hand under his shirt, Sahnas said.
The teller handed over $350, an amount too small for a dye pack or GPS. No one was hurt, and Sahnas said reports that the man jumped behind the counter and tied someone up were unfounded.
"He appeared to be an amateur; he didn't demand a lot of money," Sahnas said. It appeared "he just wanted to get in and out."
The suspect is described as an African-American man in his 40s, about 5-foot-9 and 180 pounds. He was wearing a black shirt and had either bald or graying hair.
"The video is very good," Sahnas of the bank's surveillance system.
The suspect fled on foot and was not in custody as of Friday afternoon. Police and the FBI are investigating.
