Man, Woman Shot In Separate Brighton Park Drive-By Attacks
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man and a woman were shot in the head during separate drive-by attacks early Friday in the Southwest Side Brighton Park neighborhood.
The first shooting, which is thought to be gang-related, happened about 2 a.m. near 38th Street and Kedzie Avenue, police said.
A man in his 30s was headed to a liquor store with a group of friends when a dark Ford Crown Victoria pulled up and a passenger got out and started shooting, police said.
A bullet struck the man in the head and lodged between his skin and his skull, police said. He was taken in serious condition to Mount Sinai hospital but is expected to survive.
Later Friday, a 21-year-old woman was in a vehicle about five blocks away near 37th Street and Washtenaw Avenue when a beige vehicle drove by and someone inside opened fire, police said.
She was shot in the head but was able to drive herself to Saint Anthony hospital, police said. She was transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital and is "conscious and talking" but remains in guarded early Friday.
The shootings do not appear to be connected, police said.
Wentworth Area detectives are investigating but no one is in custody for either shooting early Friday.
