Man Wanted For NW Side Hijacking, Attempted Sexual Assault
CHICAGO (STMW) - Police have released a sketch of a short, squat suspect wanted in the vehicular hijacking and attempted sexual assault of a woman this week in the Logan Square neighborhood.
About 8:20 p.m. on Monday, the 34-year-old female victim returned to the 2500 block of North Avers Avenue and pulled her vehicle inside her garage, police said.
A man was waiting in the garage and forced himself into the victim's vehicle at knifepoint, police said. Once inside the vehicle the man demanded money and personal items from the victim. He then locked the vehicle doors and fled the area with the victim held captive in the passenger seat.
He drove in the victim's vehicle to a secondary location in the 2200 block of West Medill, where he battered and attempted to sexually assault her. She was able to escape and the offender fled with the victim's vehicle.
The man is described as a black Hispanic, about 5-foot-8 and 230 pounds, with a muscular build, with short black hair and a dark complexion, according to police. He speaks with a Spanish accent.
The vehicle he took was a 1994 green Mercury minivan.
Police advise residents to call 911 to report any suspicious activity and pay attention to their surroundings, using extreme caution when entering garages or secluded areas where a criminal can hide.
Anyone who may have information about this crime or the suspect, is asked to call Grand Central Area detectives, at (312) 746-8282.
