Man Tries To Lure Young Boy Riding Bike
CHICAGO (STMW) - Police are looking for a man who may have tried to lure a young boy as they rode bicycles in the Westlawn neighborhood on the Southwest Side.
According to a community alert issued by Wentworth Area detectives, the 6-year-old boy was riding his bike on the 6100 block of South Kolmar just after 6 p.m. on Aug. 17 when a man approached on a blue mountain bike.
The man started a conversation with the boy, asking if the child knew his nieces. He then offered the boy an orange and told him to come with him. When the boy rode away, the offender rode off.
The suspect is described as a white man 50-60, 5-foot-10 and 180 pounds with gray hair. He was wearing a beige t-shirt and black pants, and riding a blue mountain bike with white highlights and the "NEXT" brand labeled on its frame.
Residents are urged to watch their children, and caution them to be alert for strangers and to report suspicious activity. Anyone with information should call detectives at (312) 747-8380.
