Man, Teen Charged In Officer's Shooting
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A teenage boy and Roseland man were charged Saturday for an attack on police that left an officer with a gunshot wound to the arm Friday afternoon on the Far South Side.
Andre Miles, 35, of the 10500 block of South Maryland Avenue, was charged with one count each of felony attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery by discharge of a firearm, police said.
A 16-year-old boy was also charged with felony aggravated battery to a police officer, according to police.
Calumet District police officers responded about 4:35 p.m. to a call of "information for the police" in the 100 block of West 103rd Street following an earlier shots fired call at that location, according to a police News Affairs statement.
The two officers proceeded to the rear of the location, where shots were fired at the police, the statement said. One of the officers was struck in the bullet-resistant vest and arm.
The 41-year-old officer was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the statement. He is a seven-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department and is currently assigned to the Calumet District.
One neighbor, who didn't want to give her name, said the officer was shot in the gangway next to her home. The woman said she was watching TV at the time.
"I heard two shots, and then I heard the policeman say, 'Oh, s---,'" the woman said.
Multiple weapons were recovered inside of a residence at that location, police said.
Miles is scheduled to appear in bond court Sunday.
Calumet Area detectives and the Independent Police Review Authority, which investigates all police-involved shootings, are investigating.
