Man Suffers Burns In Palatine Fire
PALATINE, Ill. (CBS) -- A fire in a Palatine apartment building left a man with burns and gutted the structure Tuesday morning.
Just after 1 a.m. Tuesday, firefighter came to 1952 N. Green Lane North in Palatine after multiple calls of smoke in the back hallway and smoke alarms going off.
Firefighters found heavy smoke coming from behind the open sliding door of an second-floor balcony in the six unit building, a release from the Palatine Fire Department said.
Firefighters went inside and battled a large body of fire in the rear stairwell, the release said. The fire was declared under control about 1:22 a.m.
Palatine police officers assisted residents from the building prior to the arrival of firefighters. One man suffered thermal burns and was taken to Northwest Community Healthcare in Arlington Heights. He was later transferred to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, which is known for its burn unit, the release said.
No other injuries were reported.
Palatine Neighborhood Services determined the building was uninhabitable. While fire damage was confined to the rear stairwell, several apartments suffered heavy smoke damage, the release said.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, fire officials said.
