Man Struck, Killed By Metra Train

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Metra trains were briefly halted on the Union/Pacific West Line Friday morning, after a man was struck and killed by a train on the city's West Side.
Outbound train #15, previously scheduled to arrive in Elburn at 7:50 a.m., struck a pedestrian on the Union Pacific Line, the intersection of Kilbourn Avenue and Kinzie Street about 6:45 a.m., Metra Spokesman Tom Miller said.
The man was dead at the scene, police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez said.
The location of the crash was between the Kedzie and Oak Park stations.
Metra and Union Pacific freight trains share the tracks near the crash, which did not affect vehicle traffic through the area, Perez said.
However, Metra service in both directions was stopped for a period of time as crews responded, Miller said. Trains were up and moving again as of 7:50 a.m., he said.
Chicago Police, as well as Metra police and Union Pacific officials, are responding.
