Man Struck, Killed By Blue Line Train
CHICAGO (STMW) - A man is dead after being struck by a CTA Blue Line train in the Ukrainian Village neighborhood Saturday night.
About 8:30 p.m. a southbound Blue Line train made contact with a person at the Chicago Station, at Chicago and Milwaukee avenues, CTA spokeswoman Catherine Hosinski said.
Power was removed from the tracks and fire department personnel took the person from under the train to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious to critical condition, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Quention Curtis said.
The person, a man whose age and identity were not immediately known late Saturday, died of his injuries, a spokesman for the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said.
Blue Line service between the Damen and LaSalle stations was temporarily suspended and shuttle buses took commuters between the two stations for a while.
Power was first restored to the northbound tracks, with northbound trains bypassing the Chicago station, Hosinski said. It took longer to restore power to the southbound tracks, but by about 10:25 p.m. power had been completely restored and train service was back to normal, Hosinski said.
An autopsy will be conducted Sunday to determine the manner of death.
