Cops: Was Man Intentionally Hit By Car?
UPDATED: 7/22/2013 10:49 a.m.
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Police are looking for the driver of a vehicle who they believe intentionally struck another man, critically wounding him early Monday in the Jefferson Park neighborhood.
Paramedics found the injured 38-year-old man in an alley near the 5500 block of West Farragut Avenue about 1:08 a.m., according to the Chicago Fire Department.
The man apparently ended up in the alley after the motorist struck him a short distance away, in the 5200 block of North Loring Avenue, authorities said.
A police officer on the scene told CBS 2 that the car went around the block and ran over him again, dragging him.
Police didn't find any ID on the victim.
Paramedics took the man in critical condition to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, authorities said.
After initially looking into a report of a hit-and-run collision, detectives shifted their investigation to focus on an intentional attack, police said.
No one was in custody early Monday. A description of the vehicle, which fled northbound after the crash, was not released by investigators.
"It's hard to believe it happened in our neighborhood," said neighbor Sanjay Gupta. "It's hard to believe someone would hit someone and intentionally go back and hit him."
