Red Line Train Fatally Strikes Man On North Side
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A CTA train fatally struck a man Monday afternoon on the North Side.
The Red Line train struck the person about 4:45 p.m. at the Bryn Mawr station, CTA spokeswoman Lambrini Lukidis said.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's office said 52-year-old Mark White, of the 1100 block of West Bryn Mawr Avenue, was pronounced dead at 7:21 p.m. at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.
A source said the train conductor saw the man jump in front of the train from the platform. The medical examiner's office will perform an autopsy Tuesday.
The man was not trapped under the train and firefighters removed him from the tracks, and paramedics initially took him in critical condition to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Fire Media Affairs said.
The CTA turned off power on the tracks in both directions between the Wilson and Bryn Mawr stations, affecting Red and Purple Line trains, Lukidis said. Shuttle buses were sent to take passengers between the stations.
Power was restored when the fire department was done and the longest delays were about 20 minutes, the CTA said.
Area North detectives are investigating.
