Two Dead, 10 Wounded In Thanksgiving Weekend Violence

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man attempting to stop a fight between a married couple was stabbed to death, another man was found shot dead in a backyard and at least ten other people -- including two teenage girls and a CTA passenger shot by police -- were wounded by gunfire since the start of the Thanksgiving weekend.
William Terry, 55, was stabbed multiple times when he tried to intervene in an argument between a married couple at 7:11 p.m. Wednesday in the 10300 block of South Forest Avenue, authorities said. A man arguing with his wife took a kitchen knife and stabbed Terry multiple times throughout the body.
Terry, of the 14100 block of South Tracy Avenue in Riverdale, was declared dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
The man who stabbed Terry fled in a van and is not in custody, police said. The man's wife was not injured.
Jonathan Belton, 25, was found shot in the back in a backyard in the 5500 block of South Albany Avenue, authorities said. Belton, of the 900 block of South Austin Boulevard, was dead on the scene.
About 1 p.m., a Chicago Police officer shot a man who attacked a CTA bus passenger at South California Avenue and West 63rd Street then charged at the officer. Police shot the man twice and police needed to deploy a Taser twice to subdue him to get him into an ambulance, Fraternal Order of Police spokesman Pat Camden said.
About 9:35 p.m. Wednesday, a bullet entered a home in the 1100 block of West 104th Street and struck a 15-year-old girl in the head, police said. She was taken in serious condition to Christ Medical Center.
About 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, a 23-year-old man and 18-year-old woman were shot multiple times in the 6200 block of South Campbell Avenue, police said. Both were initially listed in serious condition.
Most recently, a 19-year-old man was shot multiple times in the 4900 block of South Seeley Avenue and hospitalized in critical condition, police said.
Five other people were wounded by gunfire throughout the city -- primarily on the South Side -- since 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, police said. None of the five were critically injured.
