Man Stabbed Outside Carol's Pub In Uptown
CHICAGO (CBS) - The scene turned ugly Wednesday night at a popular country and western bar in the Uptown neighborhood, when a patron was stabbed during a brawl that spilled outside.
At 7:33 p.m. the intoxicated customer got into a fight with two employees inside Carol's Pub, 4659 N. Clark St., according to police.
The fight continued outside the bar where responding officers found the victim, suffering from three stab wounds, police said.
An ambulance was called and the customer, who lives in the area, was transported in serious condition to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center where he was listed in stable condition early Thursday, according to police.
It is unclear how old the victim was. Both quoting police, the Chicago Tribune reported he was 27, while the Sun-Times said he was 48.
A 68-year-old man and a 28-year-old man who are listed as offenders in the police report are being questioned early Thursday, but have not been charged. They were not hospitalized.
There were other witnesses to the fight and police said they are trying to determine who was the aggressor.
An Uptown Update blog reader quoted witnesses as saying the man who was stabbed has a "history" with the bar and was not welcome inside. After the stabbing, the victim walked across the street and collapsed in front of the Chava Café, on the other side of Clark.
It was not known what the weapon was or if it was recovered.
Another reader on the Uptown Update blog reported that Clark Street was closed between Lawrence and Wilson avenues after the incident, and at least 30 police officers were on the scene.
Carol's has been open since 1973, and has a wide following for its country and western music, and its darts tournaments.
