Man Shows Cop Wad Of Cash During Attempted Bribe
CHICAGO (STMW)- A man selling loose cigarettes on the sly who allegedly tried to bribe a Chicago Police officer by asking him if they could "work something out'' while showing the officer a fistful of cash Friday on the South Side was ordered held on $10,000 bond Saturday.
Judge Peggy Chiampas ordered Saddam A. Imtairah, 30, of the 400 block of East 79th St., held on $10,000 bond, according to a Cook County Criminal Court clerk.
Imtairah allegedly attempted to offer the officer a bribe to "forget about it,'' said a Gresham District police lieutenant. Imtairah was charged with bribery of a public officer following the Friday afternoon incident.
About 3:15 p.m. police noticed Imtairah allegedly selling loose cigarettes, which is not legal, at an establishment at the 79th Street address, according to the lieutenant.
When the officer told Imtairah that he could be cited with a city code violation, Imtairah allegedly showed the officer several bills in a roll and allegedly asked "Can we work something out?'' according to the lieutenant.
Imtairah is scheduled to appear in Far South Felony Court, (Br. 38), Aug. 5, according to the clerk.
