Man Shot, Wounded On North Avenue Beach
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man was shot and wounded before sunrise Friday as he walked with a group of others at the North Avenue Beach.
The 21-year-old victim was walking with his companions near the lakefront about 5 a.m., when a black sport-utility vehicle with four men inside pulled up on a nearby roadway.
One of the occupants of the SUV pulled out a handgun and started firing at the two men, police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez said.
The victim was hit in the ankle, and a good Samaritan drove him to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition, Perez said.
Police are looking into the possibility that the shooting was gang-related, since the victim has gang affiliations, a source said.
No one was in custody in connection with the shooting as of mid-morning Friday.
