Man Shot, Wounded On Busy Hollywood Avenue In Edgewater
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man was shot and wounded Monday night on the busy stretch of Hollywood Avenue in the Edgewater neighborhood, where thousands of commuters head to and from Lake Shore Drive night and day.
The 30-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk in the 1000 block of West Hollywood Avenue about 9:43 p.m. when four men approached on foot and one of them opened fire, according to police News Affairs.
The man suffered a gunshot wound to the right ankle and was taken to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, where he was listed in good condition, police said.
Less than a block away from the crime scene, Hollywood Avenue bends into the start of Lake Shore Drive. The road carries a huge volume of traffic to Lake Shore Drive from U.S. 14 along Peterson and Ridge avenues 24 hours a day.
Police have not said how much traffic was on Hollywood Avenue at the time of the shooting, or whether any motorists had come forward as witnesses.
No one was in custody in the shooting as of Tuesday morning. Area North police detectives are investigating.
