Police Release Sketch Of Suspect In Road Rage Shooting

LEMONT, Ill. (CBS) -- Authorities have released a sketch of the man suspected of shooting a Downers Grove man in an apparent road rage shooting in the southwest suburbs.
A driver from Downers Grove had the best of intentions after accidentally cutting off another motorist in unincorporated Lemont Monday, but he wound up in the hospital with a gunshot wound.

As CBS 2's Susanna Song reports, the victim, a 58-year-old man from Downers Grove, was shot in the abdomen around 10:30 a.m. Monday.
"This is pretty extreme behavior," said Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart, who added that it is a miracle the victim survived.
As CBS 2's Mike Parker reports, Cook County Sheriff's Police released a sketch of the suspect Tuesday night. The gunman is described as a white male, between 20 and 30 years old, with an olive complexion. The sketch shows him with short, dark hair and glasses.
The driver from Downers Grove was heading east on 107th Street, approaching 104th Avenue in unincorporated Lemont, when he accidentally cut off a gray or silver pickup truck, according to the sheriff's office.
The victim told investigators he felt bad, so he pulled over to the side of the road to apologize.
"Unfortunately for him, this individual had something else in mind, and this individual got out of his car, walked up to the victim, and shot him in the abdomen while he was sitting in his car," Dart said.
As CBS 2's Roseanne Tellez reports, it is unclear what words were exchanged, but the driver of the truck drove off. The victim – who was by himself in his dark Buick LaCrosse – called 911.
"This whole incident is bizarre, to put it lightly. We all have had numerous stories about road rage cases," Dart said. "Many of us have seen them ourselves. But to have a scenario where someone actually takes the time to pull over to apologize, and then the other individual just comes and shoots them – no one's ever heard of this before."
The victim was last reported in stable condition at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
Police have spoken to the victim and they have some leads, but they are asking the public for help.
On Tuesday afternoon, police were handing out fliers, looking for anyone who knows anything about what happened. Dart said the shooter is obviously a dangerous person, but since the shooting happened in broad daylight, police hope someone on the well-traveled road saw something.
