Man Shot In Lathrop Homes Public Housing Development
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man was shot early Sunday in the Lathrop Homes public housing development, police said.
The man, in his 20s, was shot about 12:30 a.m. in the 2700 block of North Hoyne Avenue, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.
He was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in stable condition, and authorities are interviewing a person of interest in connection with the shooting, police said.
The Lathrop Homes are composed of 925 units in low-rise brick buildings, located along the North Branch of the Chicago River, centered at the junction of Clybourn and Damen avenues and Diversey Parkway. The development crawls northwest along Clybourn Avenue to Wellington Avenue and Leavitt Street, and south along Damen Avenue to the point where that street crosses the river about two blocks south of Diversey.
The Chicago Housing Authority closed the Lathrop buildings north of Diversey last year and relocated all the families to the buildings to the south, according to a Chicago Sun-Times report. A plan is underway to transform the development into a mixed-income community, although the plan is meeting with resistance from residents of the development.
Area North detectives are investigating the shooting.
