Man Shot In Chest While Driving On South Side

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man was shot in the chest early Sunday as he drove in the South Side Englewood neighborhood.

The man, described as being in his 50s, was driving in the 2200 block of West 71st Street about 4:30 a.m. when he heard gunfire and was struck in the chest, police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez said.

He managed to drive himself to the 7200 block of South Albany Avenue where he left his car and someone took him to Holy Cross Hospital, according to Perez.

His condition was not immediately known, and it was unclear whether paramedics or someone else who drove him to the hospital.
