Man Shot Five Times During iPhone Robbery
CHICAGO (CBS) – A 31-year-old man was shot several times by a thug trying to steal his iPhone.
His family says the victim offered to give up the phone, but the robber opened fire, anyway.
CBS 2's Pamela Jones reports.
Anthony Kuber was just trying to surrender to robbers, but he took five gunshots instead.
Kuber's friend, Mark Sheehan, says the victim was jumped after he got off the Red Line at 47th street just after 8:30 p.m. Monday. He was walking west, holding his iPhone when two men attacked.
Sheehan says his friend dropped the phone and held up his hands begging the men not to hurt him. That's when someone pulled the trigger, hitting Kuber in the right hand, ripping through his chest and leg.
He was left for dead. Kuber went down near a viaduct and crawled into the street to try to get help, but he passed out.
His family and friends hope someone sees his photo, remembers something about the guys who attacked him and calls police.
"He got robbed, that's one thing, but then when you go and try to shoot someone five times – that's not a robbery," Sheehan says.
Kuber underwent surgery at Stroger Hospital Thursday. His fiancee was at his side as he recovered. It's not known if Kuber will be able to use his right hand.
