Man Shot Dead In Marquette Park Neighborhood

CHICAGO (STMW) - A man was shot dead Sunday afternoon in the South Side Marquette Park neighborhood, police said.

The shooting happened at 3:11 p.m. in the 2600 block of West 71st Street, police News Affairs Officer Darryl Baety said.

Marcus Miller, 18, of the 7200 block of S. Francisco Ave., was fatally shot at that location and pronounced dead at the scene at 3:20 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

He was shot in the chest and face, Baety said.

Police at the scene told residents the teen was leaving a nearby store when he was shot by someone located across the street, a neighbor said.

Further circumstances surrounding the shooting were not immediately known, police said.

Wentworth Area detectives are investigating, but no one is in custody Sunday afternoon.
