Teenage Boy Shot By Police On Southwest Side

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Police shot and wounded a teenage boy who allegedly pointed a gun at officers on the city's Southwest Side Wednesday night.
Officers responded around 10 p.m. to a call of a disturbance in the 3100 block of West 84th Place, in the Wrightwood neighborhood. The officers walked up to several men and tried to question them.
One of the suspects then took off running, and an officer chased him. The suspect turned and pointed a gun at the officer, police said.
The officer drew his gun and fired, but did not hit the 17-year-old boy, police said.
As the chase continued, the suspect turned and pointed his gun at the officer again, and the officer fired again, this time hitting him, police said.
Even after being shot, the suspect continued to run, and officers found him in a nearby backyard and arrested him, police said.
Officials said the suspect was taken from the scene to Stroger Hospital of Cook County. He had a gunshot wound to the hand and back or buttocks, but Fire Media Affairs spokesman Sean Flynn did not know his condition.
No officers were injured.
Area Central detectives and the Independent Police Review Authority are investigating.
