Man Shot By Police In Englewood
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man was shot and wounded by police early Tuesday, after he allegedly pointed a gun at officers in the Englewood neighborhood.
Around 1 a.m. Tuesday, Englewood District officers responded to a call of a man with a gun in the 6700 block of South Halsted Street. They tried to pull over a suspect matching the description broadcast over a radio bulletin as he drove down the street.
The suspect refused to stop and got out of the vehicle in the 6200 block of South Peoria Street with a gun in his hand, police said.
As officers approached, he pointed the weapon in their direction, police said. Officers fired, striking the suspect, who was taken to an area hospital, the release said. His condition was not immediately known.
The suspect was shot in the leg, police said.
A weapon was recovered at the scene, and no police officers were hurt, the release said.
Wentworth Area detectives and the Independent Police Review Authority -- which investigates all police-involved shootings -- are investigating.
