Man Shot By Crystal Lake Police Released From Hospital Into Custody
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man who was shot by police after charging at an officer last month in northwest suburban Crystal Lake has been released from the hospital and taken into custody.
Joseph Laudicina, 29, whose last known address was in the 1100 block of North Fischer Drive in Addison, was arrested at 1:40 p.m. Wednesday after being released from Centegra Hospital in Woodstock, according to a statement from Crystal Lake police.
Laudicina faces charges of attempted murder, residential burglary, home invasion, vehicular invasion, and two counts of aggravated domestic battery, police said.
Officers initially responded to the domestic battery at a home in the 300 block of West Terra Cotta Avenue (Route 176) in Crystal Lake about 11:10 p.m. on June 21.
Laudicina had struck a female family member several times in the face, choked her and threatened to kill her while armed with a knife, police said. He fled the scene before officers arrived, and the woman was treated at the scene for her injuries.
A few hours later, officers responded to another home in the 800 block of Boxwood Drive about 1:35 a.m. Laudicina had entered that home against the wishes of the residents, including the woman hurt in the earlier incident, police said.
Police entered the home and one officer was confronted by Laudicina, who was armed with a knife when he charged at the officer, according to the statement. The officer fired his weapon, striking Laudicina at least once.
He was taken to Centegra, while the officer was taken as a precaution to Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, where he was treated and released.
According to the statement, the officer has been placed on administrative leave, "which is standard practice in this type of incident."
Laudicina is being held at the McHenry County Jail on a $425,000 bond, police said. A date for his next court appearance has not yet been set.
