Man Shot And Killed In Englewood
Updated 06/27/13 - 1:56 p.m.
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A 31-year-old man was fatally wounded when the driver of a car pulled up next to him on the street in the South Side Englewood neighborhood Wednesday night and shot him in the head.
The victim was sitting in a car in the 7500 block of South Union Avenue with a passenger about 9:50 p.m., police said.
A blue Pontiac pulled up to and the driver fired several shots, striking the victim multiple times in the head, police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said.
The victim's passenger got out of the car and ran away, while a passenger in the Pontiac got out of that car and fired shots at the fleeing passenger, Mirabelli said. The passenger apparently was not struck.
The victim, identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's office as Robert Douglas of an unknown address, was dead on the scene.
The car the gunmen were in -- which appeared to be stolen -- was found a short distance way, Mirabelli said.
The shooting is believed to be gang-related, as the victim had gang affiliations, police said.
Area South detectives are investigating.
