Man Shot Along West Garfield Park Safe Passage Route
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man was shot just a block away from a Safe Passage school route Thursday afternoon in the West Garfield Park neighborhood.
The 44-year-old was shot in both legs and suffered a graze wound to his abdomen about 2:50 p.m. in the 4300 block of West Van Buren Street, police said.
He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in "stable" condition.
The shooting happened a block away from a Chicago Public Schools Safe Passage route near Genevieve Melody Elementary School, maps show. The school accepted students from Delano Elementary, which was closed earlier this year.
Area North detectives are investigating.
