Man Severely Beaten In Marquette Park
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 28-year-old man was found severely beaten and unconscious early Thursday on a street in the Marquette Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side.
The man was found "covered in blood" around 12:30 a.m. in the 2700 block of West 64th Street, police said.
Police initially believed the victim had been shot, but after he was taken to John H. Stroger Hospital of Cook County, doctors determined he had suffered blunt trauma from a beating.
The victim was listed in critical condition, but was expected to survive. Once he regained consciousness, the victim was uncooperative with police.
The 28-year-old man has a rap sheet that includes arrests for burglary, armed robbery and possession of cannabis, police said.
Witnesses told police they saw three suspects running from the attack and that one suspect was holding a baseball bat as he fled, police said. Further description of the suspects was not yet available Thursday morning.
Wentworth Area detectives were investigating, but no one was in custody as of 11 a.m.
