Man Sentenced To Prison For Killing Employee Who Called Him A Bad Tipper
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A West Side man was sentenced to more than 50 years in prison Wednesday for gunning down a car wash employee who accused him of being a bad tipper.
Judge Thomas Hennelley sentenced Marcus Gordon to 57 years in prison Wednesday, said Cook County State's Attorney's office spokesman Stephen Campbell. A jury found Gordon guilty of murder April 29.
Gordon, 42, took his black 2002 Toyota Camry to the Citgo car wash in the 1300 block of North Pulaski Road about 5 p.m. Aug. 6, 2010, prosecutors said.
However, staff refused to dry his car because he had a reputation for not tipping, prosecutors said.
Gordon, known as "Shorty G," left the business, but returned about 30 minutes later and shot employee Cesar Rosales in the chest, authorities said. Rosales stumbled back into the business and told coworkers the guy they fought with earlier came back to kill him, prosecutors said.
Rosales, 43, of the 2200 block of North Kildare Avenue, died later that day at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Several witnesses identified Gordon, of the 5200 block of West Ferdinand Street, who wasn't arrested until March 2011 when officers saw him riding in a friend's Ford Taurus, according to a police report.
Court records indicate Gordon has several prior felony convictions.
Gordon was given credit for 667 days served in Cook County Jail, Campbell said.
