Man Sentenced To Jail For Possessing Child Pornography
WHEATON, Ill. (STMW) - A 28-year-old man has been sentenced to six months in DuPage County Jail for possessing child pornography, in a case cracked last year by Wheaton police and the DuPage County Sheriff's Office.
Robert K. Mariani, of Willowbrook, has also been placed on 2 1/2 years of probation, and must register for the rest of his life as a sex offender, according to records on file in DuPage County Circuit Court.
Mariani pleaded guilty Jan. 12 to a Class 2 felony charge of aggravated child pornography, records indicated. Judge George J. Bakalis on Thursday sentenced him to jail, placed him on probation and assessed fines and court costs totaling $1,955, records showed.
Undercover Wheaton police detectives and members of the sheriff's E-crimes Unit last year conducted an Internet investigation of Mariani, and discovered he had stored several pornographic videos of preteen girls on his computer. Mariani surrendered on May 12, 2011, according to a Wheaton police release.
Hinsdale police in October 2007 arrested Mariani on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and driving too fast for conditions/failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. Court records indicated Mariani in July 2008 was placed on supervision and fined after pleading guilty to those charges.
Bakalis gave Mariani two days of credit toward his sentence for time he spent in jail after being arrested, according to records. Mariani will begin serving the remainder of his term on June 7.
