Man Sentenced To 10 Years For Fatal Drunken Hit-And-Run
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A 70-year-old Far South Side man whose blood alcohol level was "extremely high" when he fatally struck a woman on the South Side in a 2011 hit-and-run is going to prison.
Sam Manyfield pleaded guilty Monday to aggravated DUI and leaving the scene of an accident, and Cook County Judge Stanley Sacks sentenced him to 10 years in prison, according to Cook County State's Attorney's office spokeswoman Lisa Gordon.
Manyfield was driving a Jeep Cherokee that struck 52-year-old Yvonne Williams about 8:50 a.m. on July 5, 2011, as she attempted to cross the 4600 block of South Ashland in the crosswalk, police said.
Williams, of the 5500 block of South Justine Street, was declared dead less than an hour later at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County. An autopsy found she died of multiple injuries from a motor vehicle striking a pedestrian.
Officers stopped the Jeep in the 1600 block of West 45th Street and took Manyfield into custody. His blood-alcohol level was "extremely high,'' police said at the time.
Manyfield, of the 400 block of West 126th Street, was also cited for DUI, hitting a pedestrian in the roadway, driving on a suspended license and operating a vehicle without insurance, police said.
