Man Says He Fell Into Manhole After Exiting Pace Bus
RIVERDALE, Ill. (STMW) - A man filed suit Friday claiming that he exited a Pace bus and fell into an open manhole last year in south suburban Riverdale.
Phillip Harrold claims that he exited a Pace bus in Riverdale on Jan. 20, 2010, and fell into an open manhole, according to a suit filed in Cook County Circuit Court.
The suit claims there was a failure to furnish a reasonably safe place for Harrold to alight from the bus when he was let off at a location that was not its usual stopping place.
Harrold suffered serious and permanent disabling injuries to his head, body, mind, limbs and nervous system, according to the suit. He has also incurred medical expenses and will be prevented from attending to his usual duties.
The two-count suit also names the village of Riverdale and seeks more than $100,000 in damages.
Pace spokesman Patrick Wilmot said that the transportation agency doesn't comment on pending litigation. A spokesperson for Riverdale was not immediately available for comment.
