Man Robs Fifth Bank In Two Weeks
CHICAGO (CBS)-- A man dubbed the "Elmer Fudd Bandit" robbed his fifth bank in just over two weeks on Monday, this time a Norwood Park neighborhood TCF Bank branch on the Northwest Side.
The robber approached a teller at the TCF branch in the 7300 block of West Foster Avenue about 1:25 p.m. Monday and presented a note demanding money, according to a statement from FBI spokeswoman Joan Hyde. He did not display a weapon.
The teller handed the robber and undisclosed amount of cash and he ran away, Hyde said.
The robber, known as the "Elmer Fudd Bandit," is described as a 40- to 50-year-old man with blond hair and a receding hairline. He is about 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-7 and wears a flannel shirt.
He is also suspected of robbing a TCF branch in the 4700 block of North Cumberland on October 13th; the TCF branch in the 800 block of South Elmhurst Road in Des Plaines on October 14th; a Charter One Bank branch in the 4400 block of North Cumberland in Norridge on October 15th; and the TCF branch in the 7100 block of West 40th Street in Stickney on October 24th.
A reward is being offered in the case and anyone with information should call the FBI Chicago at (312) 421-6700.
The FBI is reporting 164 bank robberies in 2012, far surpassing the 115 all of last year. The all-time record in Chicago was 284 in 2006.
