Man Robbed Of Christmas Gifts In Suburban Parking Lot
GURNEE, Ill. (STMW) - A north suburban man was robbed at knifepoint of more than $2,000 worth of holiday gifts in a shopping center parking lot Tuesday night in north suburban Gurnee.
The 27-year-old Waukegan man was carrying two bags of recently purchased gifts when he was robbed about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday in the parking lot of a Best Buy and Office Max at 6533 Grand Ave. in Gurnee, according to Gurnee police.
He said he went to his vehicle, started it and went to the back door to put the bags inside when a man ran up and pushed him into the car, a release from police said. He pushed back, but the attacker displayed a large knife and robbed him, then ran back to a waiting vehicle, which sped away.
The man was not injured, but the robber got away with a laptop computer, two MP3 players, two pairs of headphones and his wallet, police said. The total value of the stolen property is estimated at more than $2,800.
The robber is described as a 5-feet-5, 200-pound Hispanic man in his 30s with a stocky build and upside-down cross or pitchfork tattoo near his right eye, the release said. He was last seen wearing a red knit hat, red hooded jacket and blue jeans.
There is no description of the getaway driver, but the victim reported he spoke Spanish. The getaway vehicle was an early 1990s blue Eagle Talon with black tinted headlights and taillights, the release said. The car had a spoiler and the word "Talon" on the brake lights across the trunk.
