Man Rides Bike Down Ramp To Blue Line Stop, Ends Up On Tracks
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man decided to ride his bicycle down the ramp that leads to the platform at a CTA Blue Line stop, and he ended up on the tracks.
The Chicago Transit Authority reported being notified at 10:20 a.m. of the accident, which happened at the Kedzie stop on the Forest Park branch of the Blue Line, on the city's West Side.
The Forest Park branch Blue Line runs in the median of the Eisenhower Expressway, and passengers walk from the street overhead down a ramp to the platform to catch the trains.
The man in this incident rode his bicycle down that ramp, and lost control when he reached the platform, CTA spokeswoman Catherine Hosinski said.
The cyclist wound up on the train tracks, but did not make contact either with the electrified third rail or a train, Hosinski said. Power was immediately turned off to the rails and Chicago Fire Department crews responded and removed the bicyclist from the tracks.
The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition, with non life-threatening injuries, Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford said.
Blue Line trains were delayed, but power was restored and trains moving again about 10:45 a.m., Hosinski said.
