LYNWOOD (CBS) -- A 56-year-old Lynwood man has been found murdered inside his home in south suburban Lynwood, and police are investigating his wife's claims she was kidnapped.

Crime tape surrounded the home on Orchard Court in Lynwood, where the body of Eugene White was found shot three times.

Lynwood Police were sent there after receiving a call from Cook County Sheriffs around 3 a.m. Monday. White's wife, who was found in Chicago Heights, said she had been kidnapped and her car set on fire.

The woman told police she was concerned for her husband.

The shooting victim's spouse left the Lynwood police station Monday afternoon, and police say she's cooperating fully. But police did not explain how she broke free from kidnappers, nor did they give a possible motive for the murder.

"I can't speculate as to what the reason for this horrendous crime is at this point," Police Chief Michael Mears told reporters.

Dozens of relatives of the couple declined to talk on camera, but an attorney spoke on their behalf.

"They understand the police have a job to do and they want the people responsible for this heinous crime to be caught," John Lyke said.

Outside the residence, a friend of Eugene White's who worked with him at Ford Motor Co., said White was known to help in the community.

"Doesn't drink, no drugs whatsoever," Willie Crater told CBS 2's Roseanne Tellez. "He was into the church very much."
