Man Left For Dead After Hit-And-Run
Updated 1/1/11 - 8:55 p.m.CHICAGO (STMW) - Police are looking for a green vehicle and any information surrounding the death of a man who was left on the road after being hit by a hit-and-run driver early Saturday on the South Side.
Hamblet Anzo, of the 6300 block of South Kostner Avenue, was pronounced dead at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County at 4:14 a.m., the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said.
Police said the man was found lying on the ground next to a parked vehicle at 5246 S. Western Ave. at 3:38 a.m.
The 21-year-old man was struck by a green vehicle going south on Western Avenue and then landed against another parked vehicle, police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said.
Someone initially called police and believed the man had been shot. But when crews arrived, they discovered he had been a victim of a hit-and-run, police said.
The man was taken to Stroger Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
An autopsy performed Saturday reveals Anzo died of multiple injuries after a vehicle struck a pedestrian and his death was ruled an accident, a medical examiner's office spokesman said.
The police Major Accident Investigation Unit is investigating the crash.
