Murder Suspect Kills Self In Car

CEDAR LAKE, Ind. (CBS) - A man wanted for a murder in Tennessee shot himself in the back seat of a car after being stopped by Indiana police on Tuesday morning.
A school in Cedar Lake, Ind., was locked down for lunch and recess Tuesday, after the shooting.
Police received a report at 8:30 a.m. of a car swerving all over U.S. 41 in Cedar Lake. Officers pulled over the car, where they observed the murder suspect, Cauncey Booker Dickerson, 23, hiding under a blanket in the backseat.
When police approached, Dickerson took out an automatic pistol and shot himself in the head. He was pronounced dead a short time afterward at St. Anthony's Medical Center in Crown Point, police said.
Earlier on Tuesday, Dickerson's car broke down near Hopkinsville, Ky. Dickerson then flagged down another driver, produced a handgun and forced him to drive him into Indiana. The driver, Gilbert Carter, 19, was behind the wheel when Dickerson shot himself. He was not injured.
Dickerson was wanted for a homicide that occured early on Tuesday morning in Clarksville, Tenn.
As a result of the incident, officials at the Hanover Community School Corporation, at 9520 W. 133rd Ave. in Cedar Lake, decided to keep students inside for lunch and recess periods.
But school officials emphasized that police told them no students or staff were ever in danger.
