Man Killed, Woman Shot On Same Block
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A Wisconsin man was shot and killed Sunday, on the same West Englewood neighborhood block where a woman was shot and seriously wounded a short time afterward.
Titus Mitchell, 23, of the 500 block of Autumn Drive in Delavan, Wis., was pronounced dead at 12:02 a.m. Monday at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to a Cook County Medical Examiner's office spokeswoman.
Somebody heard gunshots about 4:25 p.m. and went outside and found the man lying on the ground in an alley the 5700 block of South Damen Avenue, said police News Affairs Officer Darryl Baety. He was initially hospitalized in critical condition with gunshot wounds to the head and chest.
The woman, 24, was shot about 5:30 p.m. in the same block on Damen Avenue, police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala said.
She was sitting on the couch at a home in that block when she heard gunshots and felt pain, realizing she had been shot, police said. She was taken to Mount Sinai in serious condition with gunshot wounds to both thighs.
It was not immediately known if the incidents are connected.
Wentworth Area detectives are investigating both shootings, but nobody was in custody as of the latest report.
