Man Killed When Car Rolls Over, Hits Concrete Support In Munster
MUNSTER, Ind. (STMW) -- A 22-year-old man was killed and a 21-year-old man injured Sunday morning when the car they were in overturned and struck a concrete fence support in Munster, Ind.
Munster police responded at approximately 6:40 a.m. Sunday to the report of a traffic crash in the 10300 block of Columbia Avenue in the northwest Indiana town, a release from police said.
When officers got to the scene they found a 1997 Chevrolet Malibu overturned on the east side of the roadway. A preliminary investigation shows that the car was traveling north on Columbia Avenue when it left the roadway, overturned, and struck a concrete fence support.
There were two men in the car, 21-year-old Harrison Hernandez and 22-year-old Trevor Alexander, both from Munster, according to police.
Hernandez was taken by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment. He was reported to be in stable condition Sunday morning police said.
Alexander was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lake County Corner.
Investigators have not yet determined who was driving the Malibu. They are also working to determine what caused the car to leave the road. The crash remains under investigation and the Munster Police Department is being assisted in the investigation by the Lake County Corner and the Highland Police Department.
