Man Killed, Teen Hurt In North Lawndale Crash

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Police said a 14-year-old boy was behind the wheel when the car he and a 22-year-old man were in crashed into a support beam in the North Lawndale neighborhood early Sunday, leaving the boy injured and the man dead.
The two were in a 4-door Saturn that crashed into a viaduct support beam in the 1000 block of South Francisco Avenue about 3:15 a.m., police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez said. Police said the car was speeding before it hit the beam.
The 22-year-old man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:30 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. The man was identified by the medical examiner's office as Anthony Allen, of the 2900 block of West Flournoy Street.
A 14-year-old boy was also hurt in the crash and taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital in "stable" condition.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the police Major Accident Investigation Unit, police said.
