Man Charged With Fatal Wicker Park Shooting
CHICAGO (STMW) --Bond was set at $1 million Sunday for a Logan Square man charged with the shooting death of a 19-year-old early Saturday along a trendy strip of bars in the Wicker Park neighborhood.
Manuel Gonzalez, 29, of the 2600 block of North Sacramento, made his first appearance in court Sunday on charges of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted first-degree murder,.
Gonzalez allegedly shot Miguel Delgado in the head after an argument on the sidewalk in the 1500 block of North Milwaukee across the street from Nick's Beer Garden, shortly after closing time about 2:20 a.m., authorities said. Delgado died minutes later.
Police said at the time the shooting appeared to be gang-related.
A man who was standing outside a nearby bar at the time said he saw two people approach Delgado, who was on the other side of the street. Then he heard three gunshots.
Police in the area also heard the gunshots and rushed to the scene. When they arrived, they found Delgado, of the 2500 block of North Kildare Avenue, dead in the street, police said.
Gonzalez was identified as the shooter through several police line-ups, authorities said.
Police initially questioned two other people in connection with the shooting, but they were released without being charged.
