South Suburban Man Killed In Goose Island Hit-And-Run
CHICAGO (CBS) --Chicago Police have issued a community alert after a driver hit and killed a south suburban man early Thursday.
It happened on Division, just west of the Chicago River, in the Goose Island neighborhood, CBS 2's Courtney Gousman reports.
Many business owners were checking their surveillance cameras Thursday, trying to help police track down the driver who killed 40 year-old Billy Taylor of Hazel Crest.
The 1000 block of West Division is a commercial area, and it didn't take long for word of the hit-and-run to spread to businesses in the area.
Surveillance cameras wrap the Restaurant Depot on West Division, but it was a camera in front of the business that captured Taylor being hit by a car. The video's time stamp reads 4:16 a.m.
Victor Ramirez, an employee of Restaurant Depot, showed CBS 2 the video and says Taylor was dragged at least two blocks to the bridge on Division.
Ramirez says the driver blew a stop sign, just feet from the point of impact.
Although this camera was at least 50 feet away, Ramirez says it also captures the aftermath, as a friend of Taylor's realizes what happened.
Police believe the car is a black or dark-colored Hyundai Sonata made between 2010 and 2013. Investigators say that Sonata will most likely have damage to the front grill.
