CHICAGO (STMW) -- A pedestrian killed by a hit-and-run driver early Friday in the South Side Englewood neighborhood has been identified, authorities said.
Officers responded at 3:40 a.m. to the 6000 block of South Yale Avenue to a report of a pedestrian struck by a car, police News Affairs Officer Ronald Gaines said. He was dead at the scene, Gaines said.
He has since been identified as 41-year-old Timothy Jones, of the 200 block of South Sacramento Boulevard, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Police issued a community alert early Saturday asking for any information about the identity of the driver or the vehicle. The car continued southbound on Yale Avenue after the accident, the alert said.
Police had no description of the vehicle that struck him, nor have any witnesses come forward.
An autopsy performed Friday was inconclusive pending further studies, according to the medical examiner's office.
