Man Killed In Drug-Related Lawndale Shooting
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man was killed in a drug-related shooting in the West Side Lawndale neighborhood Tuesday morning, police said.
The man, 51, was in the 1300 block of South Christiana Avenue about 9:30 a.m. when a passenger got out of a black SUV and shot him, police News Affairs Officer Joshua Purkiss said.
He was shot in the chest and abdomen and initially hospitalized in critical condition, police said.
Curtis Porter, of the 600 block of South Wabash Avenue, was pronounced dead at Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Centers at 1:27 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
The shooter fled in the SUV, which was driven by another male suspect, police said. Authorities think the shooting may be narcotics-related, but did not elaborate.
The slaying is the 24th homicide of 2013, and the 21st fatal shooting of the year.
No one is in custody as Area Central detectives investigate.
