Man Killed In Calumet Heights Drive-By
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man died Friday after a drive-by shooting in the Calumet Heights neighborhood on the South Side.
The 22-year-old was riding as a passenger in a car headed north in the 9300 block of South Stony Island Avenue around 11:30 a.m. when a small black four-door sedan pulled up alongside their car and someone inside opened fire, police News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada said.
The 22-year-old was driven to a restaurant in the 8800 block of Stony Island, where emergency crews took him in "very critical" condition to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he later died, according to police and fire officials.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's office confirmed the death but the man's identity was withheld Friday afternoon pending notification of family members.
Police said the shooting may have been gang-related, and that the man shot was a documented gang member.
No one is in custody as Area South detectives investigate.
