Man Killed In Accident Near Schaumburg
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. (STMW) -- A man was killed in a crash Monday on Route 53 at the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway near northwest suburban Schaumburg.
A vehicle traveling in the northbound lanes of Route 53 at the Jane Addams (I-90) near Schaumburg at 7:45 p.m. struck the concrete median on the left shoulder, an Illinois State Police District Chicago master sergeant said. The driver got out of the vehicle to inspect the damage to his car, which was partially still in the left lane.
A second vehicle began skidding and hit the first vehicle, which then struck the driver who was propelled over the center median and into the center lane of the southbound express lanes of Route 53, according to the Illinois State Police. A third vehicle then hit the man, who was dragged behind the vehicle several feet.
The man, identified as Abhijit P. Anturkar, 35, of the 300 block of West Meadow Mist Lane in Round Lake, was pronounced dead on the scene, according to a representative of the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
